In the movie A Walk to Remember (with Mandy Moore), there is a very catchy and memorable line/scene where she quotes a verse that is from the Bible:
"Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful nor conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes."
This is, as you can guess, from I Corinthians (a book in the Bible), Chapter 13, Verses 4-7. However, this is a movie paraphrase or quoted from a bad translation of the Bible. A lot of richness is lost from what is truly God's words about "charity." Charity is a specific, deeper, godly love. Here is what is in the King James Version:
"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things."
I saw the book version of A Walk to Remember the other day and it mentions that she is the daughter of a southern Baptist preacher. They certainly played that down in the movie. But also, that would make her quotation of the verse a pretty bad flub on the part of the writers/director/editor, because she and her father should know and use the King James Version as the best version of God's word.
